Willie H. Sanders, Jr., age 88, of Hendersonville, North Carolina, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Four Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, North Carolina.

 

A native of Henderson and Buncombe Counties, he was the son of the late Willie H. Sanders, Sr. and Ollie Hoxit Sanders.  He was also preceded in death by three children, Harley Anthony, Randall and Sandra Sanders.

 

Mr. Sanders served with the United States Army for 36 years, in active duty 22 years, and taught JROTC for 14 years.

 

Mr. Sanders is survived by his wife, Dorothy M. Sanders; one brother, Gary Sanders (Sue); two sons, David and Allan Sanders; one stepdaughter, Kimberly Rogers (David); one stepson, Daniel Jenkins; fourteen grandchildren; and nineteen great grandchildren.

 

A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 24, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Balfour United Methodist Church with Dr. Neil Haynes and Pastor Deb Demorest officiating.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hendersonville where full military honors will be provided by the United States Army.  The family will receive friends on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., two hours prior to the service, at the church.

I am very sorry to here about this. Very few people have made big changes in my life, but he was one of them. I really believe the JROTC program at Erwin changed my life.

Gary and Family,
So sorry to hear of Junior’s passing. What great memories of us all playing as kids. I also have fond memories of serving in the Guard with Junior. He was family but a friend as well. God’s peace be with you all.
