Willie “Granny” Coleman, 85, of Flat Rock, passed away, Friday July 24, 2009, at her home.
Born in Marietta, SC, she was a daughter of the late Eugene and Leona Blackwell Shipman.
Preceding her in death are her husband of 55 years, James Cline Coleman, who died in 2002; three brothers, Lawnie Ray Shipman, Rev. James Shipman and Larry Shipman and a daughter-in-law, Jeanne Lipsey Coleman.
A resident of Henderson County for most of her life, she retired at the age of 78 after 35 years of service as a CNA at Pardee Hospital. She was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son, Rev. Roy Coleman and his wife Paulette of Leland, NC; a daughter, Kathey Piper and her husband Danny of Flat Rock; a sister, Donnell Hyder and her husband James of Edneyville; a grandson, Christopher Coleman and his wife Cindy of Chatham, VA; three grand-daughters, Jennifer Rollins, Jaime Tankersley both of Flat Rock and Cindy Piper of Hendersonville; eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday in the chapel at Forest Lawn Mortuary. Rev. James Stanley Adcock and Rev. James Maybin will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2-3 pm Sunday at the funeral home.

Hello, I am very sorry for your loss. Kathey, you may not remember me but we attended Hendersonville High School together. (I believe you are the same Kathey Coleman). I have often wondered how you were and where you were living. I hope you are well. Please accept my condolences on the loss of your mother.

The best memories of my life, was going to church with Billy, Donnell, and the family.also,not long ago, Lawnie Ray, Donnell, and Billy sang at Helen Thompson’s Birthday party. They sounded like angels, I know we will hear them sing together again. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We Love you.
